Understanding Home Water Softener Systems

Home water softeners are essential water treatment systems designed to remove hardness minerals like calcium and magnesium from your household water supply. How Water Softeners Work:

Traditional salt-based water softeners operate through an ion exchange process. Hard water passes through a resin bed containing sodium-charged beads. The calcium and magnesium ions (which cause water hardness) are attracted to and exchanged with the sodium ions on the resin beads. This process effectively removes the hardness minerals from the water, leaving it "soft." When the resin becomes saturated with hardness minerals, the system automatically regenerates by flushing the resin with a brine solution, which recharges the resin beads with sodium ions and flushes the accumulated minerals down the drain.

• Brine Tank: Stores salt used to create the brine solution for regeneration
