The water softener salt brine tank is a critical component of any ion exchange water softening system. This tank serves as the reservoir where salt is stored and mixed with water to create a concentrated brine solution. During the regeneration cycle, this brine solution is drawn into the mineral tank to recharge the resin beads, restoring their ability to remove hardness minerals from your water supply.

Key Components of Brine Tanks:

• Salt Grid or Platform: Elevated platform that prevents salt from blocking the brine well

How Brine Tanks Work:

When your water softener initiates a regeneration cycle, water enters the brine tank and dissolves the salt, creating a saturated brine solution. This highly concentrated salt water is then drawn into the mineral tank where it flows through the resin bed. The sodium ions in the brine solution replace the accumulated calcium and magnesium ions on the resin beads, effectively recharging them. After the regeneration process, the resin bed is rinsed, and the system returns to normal softening operation.
